GOVERNING WITH LIFE FOR LIFE:

Putting the planet and all its inhabitants first:

from democracy to eco-system stewardship

A holographic system of governance: is based on the understanding that our differences are valuable to each other and our well-being depends on each others well-being.  It does not allow for unbridled growth, but instead invests in balanced, healthy, diverse local economies in healthy mutually nourishing relationship with neighboring economies.  It does not organize itself according to competition but according to healthy complementarity and cooperation.  The education system is geared towards cultivating differences as well as the healthy relationship among the differences.  Children are not taught how to get ahead at the expense of each other, but instead how to receive what they need to develop their unique gifts and how to offer these in return to the community in mutually nourishing and complementary ways.

From legalized falsehood and manipulation to honesty and integrity:

A holographic system of governance is based on cultivating integrity of body, soul, community and planet.  Honest communication is a basic ingredient for mental health.  Children who grow up with consistently unreliable messages are more vulnerable to stress and emotional distress and confusion.  Integrity is not only about honesty.  It is about wholeness and alignment of form and essence made possible through clear functional information moving fluidly through the system.   Integrity of people and planet  cannot not lie in a control based governance entrenched in stable formal systems and ideologies that do not invest in life and are not resonant with life. Integrity lies instead in slowing down, listening and learning to live in integrity with our bodies and souls to ourselves, our communities and the planet and acting from a place of alignment.  A holographic system of governance is one whose actions are aligned with its stated intentions and called to task for discrepancies between form and essence.  Rather than stepping on each other in a spiral of falsehood it cultivates and educates towards kind, honest, wise, resonant relations with each other and with all species. It works towards ensuring the alignment between humanity and the planet with all its inhabitants.

Limited language and perspectives: Another limitation  of representativeness in our current form of democracy is that our governance systems are  comprised mainly of politicians, lawyers and financial experts with little direct expertise in working the land or cultivating healthy community. They are steeped in  technocratic  discourse of either/or debate disconnected from principles of life. For the most part the politicians, lawyers and economists charged with looking after life are working with limited perspectives and loyalties rather than a creative commitment to the planet as a whole.  It is no wonder that  our governance systems are fragmenting people and planet and providing a breeding ground for conflict and disease.

Human centered myopia: The notion of representation of the governed in democracy is tragically  limited in its human centered myopia. Privileging  human beings as superior to all other species, it totally obliterates the rights of other species.  Using limited and outdated scientific assumptions it perpetuates the false notion that humans are the most intelligent and superior beings on the planet and as such have the right to do as they want to the earth and all its species for their own personal benefit.  It colludes with and amplifies ideas about rightful ownership of land being determined by a person's accumulated assets no matter how ill gotten they are rather than a persons commitment to in turn honor the land and its species in a way that puts the planet and all its inhabitants first. The marriage of democracy with the perverted notion of free market capitalism has been nothing less than a plague for the planet.  We are all now suffering the consequences even if we are unwilling to face them directly.  An evolved holographic democracy recognizes that all human and non-human aspects of the environment governed need adequate representativeness in the governing process for the entire system to flourish.  If we  have raped the land, upset the intricate balance of life, destroyed the bees etc. under the name of democracy, something is very very rotten in the system we have co-created and continue to espouse as the most viable and healthy option.  While it may be better than other systems, that is a rather feeble reason to continue to pursue it rather than to radically transform it.

A holographic system of governance is not based on a once every four year commitment of putting a piece of paper in a box. Instead it is based on cultivating inter-dependent diverse communities invested in each other's wellbeing. Individual gifts and talents are not seen as a private posessions but as complementary skills essential to the community and planet as a whole. Citizen awareness and action, cultivated from a young age in the education system would involve learning and  organizing in ways that are based on healthy mutual nourishment and accountabililty rather than the notion of competition that has been hallowed by the free market indoctrination as essential to healthy economies.

What now?

We now need to go beyond the current notion of democracy to a more inclusive and life based form of governance based on an emerging holographic understanding of the world.

Purpose:  For a healthy vital society that depends on a vital, healthy planet for its sustenance,  it is essential first and foremost that people and governments worldwide commit to the health and vitality of the planet and all its inhabitants as the only viable sustainable purpose and pathway forward.  Once we agree on this purpose, we then can use the parameter of vitality of people and planet as the key organizing principle for governance, law and commerce and evaluate its success accordingly.  As long as the purpose of democracy remains shrouded in amorphous unqualified values, people will pervert notions of freedom, equality and justice in divisive sectorial ways. Once we commit to this purpose we need to learn about health and vitality directly from life and our own experience with it in addition to distilling and synthesizing the most valuable insights regarding individual and collective vitality as it exists in the multiple disciplines people are developing today on the basis of ancient and current wisdom.

Interconnectedness: To evolve to governance systems  able to fulfil their mandate of ensuring health and vitality of people and planet we need to move beyond the outdated notions of separateness, hierarchy and entitlement that pits parts of our planetary system against other parts like an auto-immune disease.  It is essential that we learn from a young age about ourselves as an interconnected living system whose well-being depends on the well-being of all other parts and whose well-being cannot come at the expense of other parts without jeopardizing the system as a whole.

We  are witness to the tragedy that ensues when we believe that we can enjoy something at the expense of the suffering of another.  It is essential that we collectively invest in studying from diverse and integrative perspectives the components of human and environmental health and vitality and their relationship to each other.

It is essential that the governance system is designed to take into account the complex needs and potentials of all parts of the human and non human environment affected by the governing process, and not only some. We need to move from the belief that competition is inevitable for survival to realise that it is actually the principle of mutual nourishment found in  nature brings  that is the organizing principle for the healthy abundance of one and all.  It is only human beings that have detached ourselves from this fundamental life principle and in doing so we have caused enormous suffering and destruction to ourselves, the animals and the planet. Vital living systems in nature do not work with principles of hierarchy, control or entitlement.  Healthy living systems instead organize themselves according to principles of interdependence, complementarity and harmony in diversity. You will never find an animal in a healthy eco-system attacking the foundations of the eco-system as a whole.

designed to manipulate into a frenzy of unmitigated buying.  Living with lies impacts emotional and moral health and integrity.  Freedom of choice and freedom of speech has become the perverse notion of the freedom to lie and incite rather than the freedom to speak truth for the benefit of all. It is distressing to witness how democracy with its sophisticated marketing tools has become a breeding ground for falsehood and manipulation.  From advertising to photoshopping oneself with plastic surgery or computer technology it is based on false appearances selling discrepancies between what is on the outside and the inside. Something that can similarly be said about democracy and the painful discrepancy between what we are sold and what is delivered.

We teach ourselves how to hide thoughts and feelings not only from others, but also from ourselves as part of a strategy for success.  The influx of commercial and ideological messaging is constantly attacking our capacity to listen and resonate in alignement with all of our being. The strategy of over stimulation and immediate gratification seriously damages our capacity to live integrity with ourselves and others and is creating enormous havoc on our nervous system.  Societies with attention deficit disorders are designed to be more susceptible to manipulative messaging and addiction to quick fix solutions.

Holographic wisdom: Modern science is showing that people and planet are fundamentally interconnected as a holographic living system. We  function as interdependent parts of the same organism, something like cells in the same body.  As in the premise of holistic medicine that takes an integrative rather than specialist approach to phenomena, each part of the system is seen as impacting all other parts and  impacted by all parts.  What occurs in one part of the body impacts  and is reflected in other parts of the body.  This insight has crucial implications for how we conceive of healthy social and planetary governance.

It is essential that as a species we cultivate our holographic intelligence.

A holographic form of governance: takes the notion of accurate representativeness of the parts in the whole beyond the limited notions of democracy as it exists today.  Holographic governance recognizes for instance the need for all human and non-human parts of the environment affected by the governance system be taken into account for the benefit of the whole. This means for instance taking into account:

  • the diverse needs and potentials of the different communities in the governed area and the opportunity for mutual nourishment among them,

  • the cultivation and stewardship of the natural  environment of animals, plants, water, air, earth, fire, oil and mineral resources essential for the health of the eco-system as a whole

  • the mutually nourishing relationship of the governed system with other eco-systems interdependent eco-systems and the planet as a whole

A holographic system  ensures that those in governance hold the range of essential complementary perspectives and intelligences required for the creative, resonant and effective cultivation of harmony in diversity.  An eco-system cannot survive or thrive with little diversity.  Imagine an ecosystem with very few species of animals or plants or lacking in any of the essential micro-organisms or insects that ensure the balance and pollination of the eco-system as a whole.

A holographic governance system ensures that all relevant perspectives and intelligences needed for the living system to flourish are represented.  This includes the farmers, the artists, the systems thinkers, the activists, the visionaries, the builders, the healers, the astronomers and the engineers, and all the other prisms needed to ensure that the whole living system is taken care of and cultivated in its rich complementary diversity for the good of all.

It ensures that governance is dynamic, resonant and evolving with life according to the principles of harmony in diversity, mutual nourishment and mutual accountability.

It recognizes the complementarity of all species and of the entire planetary body. Healthy representation in government needs to reflect and respect the needs and potentials not only of the humans in the area but also the needs and potentials of the non-human eco-system whose health is inter-dependent with and essential for the human society and the entire local and global eco-systems.

This leads to manipulative standardization of what is considered successful and a depletion of the resource of  peoples' diverse skills and intelligences. These sectorial groups simply use the external form of democracy to entrench and abuse power for personal and tribal gain. The result is fragmented societies at war with themselves and the planet struggling to survive on the one hand or move ahead on the Forbes list of moneyed on the other hand.

The reeducation  although there are many groups vested in preventing such reeducation as much of our politics and ecomomics are driven by notions of division and hierarchy.

It is also essential that representatives in government reflect a broad range of disciplines, perspectives and intelligences that can approach issues from a systemic, creative need and potential based perspective as opposed to limiting it to technical legal prisms that have little to do with the dynamic life of the people and eco-systems involved.

believe in the limited notion of survival of the fittest and that war, privilege and ruthless competition are an inevitable part of human nature.  It also means attending to the ways in which politics of democracy has used its shell to undermine rather than enhance citizen involvement.

Holographic intelligence perceives the interweaving of the whole in the parts and the parts in the whole and uses this understanding for the benefit of the whole.  Unlike democracy that has wittingly and unwittingly wittled away at citizen influence and representativeness, holographic governance would focus on these as key to its ability to cultivate a healthy system.

LOCAL AND GLOBAL VITALITY
Governance     /    Law     /     Education    /     Organic Economy

For local and global vitality we need governance systems that accurately reflect the needs and potentials of the diverse human and non-human aspects of the evironment  affected by the governance system.

Governance sytems must thus resemble holographs of  people and environment  organized in a purposeful, balanced, resonant and mutually nourishing way.

ORIENTING QUESTION: How do we create forms of social governance,  based on the holographic self-organizing intelligence  of  nature in order to enable  accurate mutual  nourishment among all diverse complementary parts of our interdependent whole?

A holographic form of governance:

1. Ensures the needs and potentials of the different parts of the human and non-human environment affected by a governance system are adequately represented within the governance system.

2. Enables dynamic processes for organizing society that are context driven and resonant to shifting conditions.  Holographic governance is agile and responsive. It is not constrained by crystallized sturctures, ideologies of authority or technocratic procedures. Instead the holographic governance system is in constant evolution as it learns from ongoing experience about vital harmony in diversity.

3. Constantly accesses and applies the vital wisdom and creativity of all parts of the systems that it serves in ways that are beneficial for the parts and the whole.

4. Functions with similar principles to any healthy eco-system. The governance system requires a delicate balance of giving and receiving between the diverse and interdependent parts that make up the system without hierarchy of privilege or power of one part/intelligence  over another. The ant and the bee are equally essential to eco-system as the lion and the eagle, and none dominate the other. Similarly, the builder, teacher, cleaner and artist are no more or less essential than the doctor, lawyer or politician.  In nature each species takes what is essential for its own nourishment and in turn fertilizes the environment with its owns unique skills so that all can  flourish.
